Q: Can I have an employee of my business do the clean-up?
A: Federal regulation #29CFR1910.1030 of the OSHA standards states that no employee can be placed in a position to be exposed to bloodborne pathogens or blood spills without receiving the following.
- They must have received bloodborne pathogen training by a certified instructor.
- The company must have a written bloodborne pathogen exposure control plan.
- The employees must be provided with personal protective equipment.
- The employee must have received the completed series of Hepatitis “B” injections.
- The company must have properly marked containers for the removal and storage of all bio-hazardous waste that is to be removed from the scene.
- The company must have a contract with a contractor that can remove and dispose of the bio-hazardous waste. This company must be certified by the EPA, CDC and OSHA.
